This is Norma. She’s In the clink. The big house. The hoosegow. The pokey. The slammer. She freshened up her lipstick before she would allow the sheriff to take a mugshot, because she would be damned if her photo will be in the paper without a quick touch up. Her daughter, the lawyer, arrived about the time she had the office dusted and the fitted sheets for the bunks folded flawlessly because the sheriff didn’t have the heart to throw her in a cell. She is also the only woman he knew who can fold fitted sheets and he wasn’t going to get in the way of progress. The local veterinarian, Dr. Dale, stopped in to speak with the sheriff. He spotted Andrea and tipped his hat. On his way out, Norma pressed a jar of dilly beans into his hand. By day’s end, since there are no laws against possession of white powdery substance if it is only pectin, even if your motivation is nefarious, she was released into Andrea’s care. When Dale looked more carefully at his jar of home canned Bloody Mary stirrers, he saw the note Norma had carefully written on the lid. “Dilly Beans, 2026. Andrea, 970-555-8675. She is free Friday night, has a deep appreciation for tacos, and you can pick her up at 7.” With the Lord’s work done, she had some chokecherry jelly to can. #cowbios
